I recently bought the SoundID SIX but directly from the manufacturer since it was not currently available through Amazon at the time. I also recently bought the Motorola H17txt and Motorola Elite Flip as I wanted to find a headset that provides the hands free texting. Here is my review of the SoundID SIX after using it for two weeks. Note: this headset DOES NOT currently read incoming text messages aloud to you. I have an iPhone 4 running iOS 5.0.1. I have more information further down in the review about this.

Aesthetics: The headset is attractive and you can see a metallic sheen/design when passed under the light. As noted in the product specifications, there is a physical on/off switch that you slide and also a button on the side of the headset about the size of the end of a fingertip.

Comfort: The headset comes with a variety of eargels, a single ear loop, and a couple of foam pads for adapting the fit to your ear. My preference is for the earloop as I've never been comfortable with an ear gel. The ear loop at first inspection feels rather flimsy and I thought it may be a little stiff which might break over time. I was also worried about the comfort level for such an expensive headset. I have been surprised as it is more flexible than I originally thought and provides enough resistance I can put the headset on with one hand. With other headsets, such as the Elite Flip, the ear loop was very flexible and comfortable but I usually had to use two hands to put it on so this was a nice change. I have worn the headset for up to two hours and have not had any discomfort. I occasionally do need to change position if I don't have it an appropriate position but have been pleased with the comfort level.

Sound: I read the company was started by a former ENT and the fit and acoustics were meant to be better. I don't know if that's true but of the three headsets I've bought, everyone I talk to prefers how I sound with the SIX. They haven't been able to tell I'm on a headset which is the feedback I hoped to hear. However, I find it odd and unexpected the sound I hear back through the headset is not as a clear as I would expect. In fact, it's been better on the Elite Flip ($99) and the H17txt ($50). You can change your hearing experience using the EarPrint application as noted and it does get better but not as a clear as I expect at this price point. I have decided to be patient for possible future updates to either the EarPrint app and/or a firmware update to the device to see if it improves. It does not interfere with functionality but does not meet my expectations for a $130.

Features/button: the headset invokes its own voice menu by pressing the button on the side of the headset. It's a nice thought but actually adds an extra layer to native iPhone services like voice dialing, I suppose accessing Siri on the 4S. You press and hold the button for a second and it brings up the voice menu. This menu is configurable through the EarPrint app so you press the button again when you want to use the feature it tells you. You can also change the speed of the robotic voice uses when going through the options but it's best to put the option you will use most as the first option (I use this for voice dialing). The product documentation states this tells you incoming phone calls and it will tell you the incoming phone number but this does not leverage your iPhone's address book to tell you the name of the person calling if they are in your address book. The headset's own voice menu has a few options for spouse, work, family1, family2 and a couple of others so you can narrow it down that way for incoming/outgoing calls but I have not really found this to be helpful.

Features/Volume and Mute: Since there are only two physical buttons on the headset, turning the volume up and down is done by sliding your finger up and down the headset. To increase the volume, you slide your finger from the mic up toward your ear and vice versa to turn it down. This takes a bit of getting used to but once you get the hang of it, it works well. It beeps to let you know when you have reached max and min volumes. Alternatively, you can perform these actions by using the phone's volume buttons. I have had headsets in the past where the volume control on the headset and the phone were mutually exclusive so turning up both of them increased the overall volume; however, this is not the case with the SIX. Swiping the headset or using the phone's volume buttons increases the volume of the headset only. I have found the volume to be adequate even when driving interstate speeds and having conversations with colleagues at work.

Muting the headset is not as elegant. While quite functional, you're required to use two fingers and hold then on the headset for 2 seconds. A voice will tell you the call is muted but 2 seconds is a LONG time when you're talking to someone and may need to mute quickly. I prefer a dedicated mute button on a headset for instant muting. Instead of using the mute feature on the headset, I use the phone's mute button but this is annoying to me for a headset of this price. I feel a bluetooth is meant to be hands-free so reaching for your phone for this feature shouldn't be necessary. This 2 second timing may work fine for others but when you're on a conference call and need to come back from mute, it's an even longer time than coming back from mute from a call on a mobile.

Features/Hands-Free Texting: the product literature talks about hands-free texting and will read incoming text messages to you. This is true if you're using an Android phone but not an iPhone. I assume Siri will do this in the future so there probably isn't an incentive to add this feature to a headset if iOS will natively do it. I do use the Vlingo application to send hands-free text messages and it works well with the headset and the voice recognition is probably more accurate with the SIX than the Elite Flip and H17txt. I did have to turn off the Vlingo feature to recognize pauses since I found it wouldn't catch everything I was saying and would instead start trying to process what I've said.

Features/Noise-Cancelling: the headset excels at this but I also expect it to (again for the price). It uses three microphones which I think is a significant change in other headsets that use two. I've used this in the car, in the house with two small boys running around yelling, at a gas station, and in a parking lot and it passes very well. No one can tell I'm in the car or outside and only the sharpest and loudest of noises come through in conversation.

Battery: It's a short 4 hours and I've found myself charging it every couple of days or so. You can see the battery level in the EarPrint app on the iPhone and the headset will tell you when it gets down to 20 percent and again at 10 percent.

Overall, I'm happy with the headset but am hopeful for future updates that may fix or adjust some of my criticisms above.
